Langara Island salmon fishing is beyond compare but guests come to the West Coast Fishing Club for a hundred different reasons. Besides the amazing and plentiful halibut and salmon fishing in the Queen Charlotte Islands, these islands also boast a variety of wildlife and picturesque scenery. While Saltwater Salmon and Halibut Fishing are always a top priority, The West Coast Fishing Club offers guests a variety of other activities for you to enjoy. Salmon fishing in the Queen Charlotte Islands may take up your morning but maybe later in the afternoon you may want to take a helicopter adventure down the coastline, whale watch or do some sea kayaking. Please explore the activities section for a detailed list of what the West Coast Fishing Club and Langara Island has to offer: Saltwater Fishing, Saltwater Fly Fishing, Beachcombing, Whale & Bird Watching, Heli Tours, Haida Walks, Sea Kayaking. Saltwater Fishing. Here at the top of BC's Queen Charlotte Islands, you're on the migratory path of all five species of Pacific Salmon, including mighty Chinook (Kings) and feisty Coho (Silvers), plus trophy sized Pacific Halibut and Cod. Mere minutes by boat and you 're reeling 100 lb. halibut and true Tyee - 30 lb. plus King salmon - from May to mid September. That's how we deliver on our promise of the world's best fishing. The Queen Charlotte Islands also offer the best Salt Water Fly Fishing area on the West Coast of North America. This is the only area of the coast where all species of salmon are actively feeding at the same time and can be caught on a cast fly. You are welcome to try on your own or fish with one of our experienced guides. We offer a range of boat sizes, plus fully-guided or self-guided trips, its up to you! Saltwater Fly Fishing. While it is not generally known, Pacific salmon will take a cast fly, and when they hit, look out! Professional fly fishermen like Trey Coombs, Les Johnson, and Bruce Ferguson make repeated trips to the West Coast Fishing Club to try their luck at the latest salt water fly fishing techniques. Well known fly fisherman and author Trey Coombs has hooked and landed 4 of the 5 species of salmon in one day on the fly at our North Island Lodge. Using weighted flies and sinking line he enticed these silver bullets from kelp beds just minutes from the lodge. And of course, these fish have the whole ocean to run and fight in. It's an experience unlike anything you ever imagined with a fly rod in your hand. You have to try it to believe it - and then be ready for a long, arm-tiring fight. As well, black rockfish, (often called sea bass) will rise to a fly and that's a whole other fight. Beachcombing. Hummer Rainforest Safaris. The north Queen Charlottes are a mecca for bird watchers, along with being one of the largest nesting areas for the Peregrine Falcon and Bald Eagle. This untouched wilderness is home to hundreds of indigenous birds. Bring your binoculars and your checklist to spy peregrine falcons, bald eagles, tufted puffins, auklets, storm petrels, ancient murrelets, albatross and the many other species that frequent this area. Experience whale-watching at its best, from your choice of our sea-worthy boats. Keep your eyes peeled for killer whales, gray whales, humpbacks, dolphins and the occasional blue and minke whale. Our guides will let you know when these sea giants are in the area and will gladly take you for a closer look. Heli Tours. West Coast Fishing Club is now owner of an A-Star AS 350 Helicopter. Since its introduction in 1978, the A-Star has become the aircraft of choice for the single engine operator, because of its ability to travel further and faster than any comparable ship in its class. The AS 350 also has the largest cabin volume of any single engine helicopter. The A-Star is renowned for its proven endurance, long-range performance, forward facing seats, extensive window area and generous cargo storage. The A-Star joined the Bell 212 last year and was part of the guest-moving fleet on changeover days. This helicopter has one of the world's best safety records among all single engine aircraft, including fixed wing airplanes. It will take on an expanded role this season as the adventure flight-seeing and heli-fishing machine. The A-Star is capable of carrying 6 passengers plus pilot and can be chartered from any West Coast Fishing Club property. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination and we offer a few ideas: Take a tour down the pristine, beautiful West Coast of Graham Island, stopping where you want and continuing as far as you like. Some ideal stops include Beresford Bay, Peril Bay - a sweeping white sand beach, and Tian Head - home to hundreds of sea lions and a mysterious ocean crater that forms its own tide pool. Have us pack a lunch for you and picnic on a beach or a remote mountain top. Continue on past Tian Head and you'll see the famous wreck of the Clarksdale Victory at Hippa Island. There are also some short hops from the Clubhouse that may interest you. Visit one of the last remaining manned lighthouses on the coast of British Columbia, the Langara lighthouse. Walk the grounds, meet the lighthouse keeper and see a working lightstation in operation. The isolation will give you a chill and so will the spectacular view. Keep your eyes peeled for Alaska! Heli-fly fishing is also available for those who want to experience another side of the Queen Charlotte wilderness. Take a float tube to a pristine lake or drop into one of the many remote streams that drain into the Pacific. Excursions to the world-famous Yakoun, Copper and Ian Rivers can be arranged. Try your luck at spin casting for cutthroat trout, Dolly Varden and perhaps even a salmon or steelhead. You'll enjoy the challenge even more on our light tackle. For the truly adventurous we offer extreme heli-hiking with an experienced guide. To book your A-Star Excursion contact our office before your trip, or the lodge manager during your stay. Haida Walks. The Queen Charlottes are rich in Canadian native cultural history. For those who prefer to keep their feet dry, there are nature and sightseeing walks led by people whose ancestors walked the same paths to ancient Haida Gwaii villages. Visit nearby Graham Island by boat to see an ancient Haida Village site complete with authentic totem poles. Sea Kayaking. The Outpost is equipped with sea kayaking equipment. Take a leisurely paddle around the neighbourhood and set your sights on kayaking with curious dolphins and playful river otters amid spiritual surroundings. Explore the Queen Charlotte's isolated coastline at your own leisurely pace. Never paddled before? Our certified instructor will teach you the basics and accompany you on your adventure.Home About Us Clubhouse Clubhouse Activities Clubhouse Amenities Clubhouse Availability Clubhouse Dining Clubhouse Fleet Clubhouse Pricelists Clubhouse Rooms Clubhouse - Your Trip Contact Gallery Guest Services News North Island North Island Activities North Island Amenities North Island Availability North Island Dining North Island Fleet North Island Price Lists North Island Rooms North Island - Your Trip Outpost Outpost Activities Outpost Amenities Outpost Availability Outpost Dining Outpost Fleet Outpost Price Lists Outpost Rooms Outpost - Your Trip Reports Weather
